Teaching Philosophy Tango Indy dances the social style of Tango that is danced on the crowded dance floors of Buenos Aires. It is characterized by a very close embrace, a close connection between the partners, improvisation rather than memorized sequences of steps, and is very rhythmic.
Fees Cost for a 6-week series is $50 and includes a one hour group class and a practica preceding or following it. Where Walk-In's are permitted, the walk-in price is $10 per class. If you are not taking a class before or after, the Practica Only price is $5. Class Descriptions Tango I (Beginners) Tuesdays, 7:00 to 8:00 PM Pre-requisite-None. This progressive 6-week series focuses on the fundamentals of Argentine Tango including posture, embrace, walking steps and rhythmic movements. We develop steps that are immediately useful on the dance floor, work on special leading and following techniques necessary to dance comfortably in this close embrace, and develop an understanding of the music. And we have fun dancing! This class is appropriate for beginning tango dancers as well as those who have been dancing tango for awhile but are new to this style. Since this class is progressive, students will get the most from the series if you attend all sessions. Drop-in's are not encouraged after the 2nd session. We strongly recommend that you attend the Practica (included in the class price) from 8:00 to 9:00 PM. After completing this series you may choose to repeat it or move on to Tango II. Special Note to Graduates of Tango I: If you have completed the 6-week series but would like to take it over again, ask Marie about our Repeaters Discount! Each of the following courses will usually focus on a specific group of skills for each 6-week series. However, Marie reserves the right to modify topics, if appropriate. It is beneficial to attend the entire series but the classes are not necessarily progressive so walk-in's are also encouraged. Tango II (Advanced Beginner) Tuesdays, 9:00 to 10:00 PM Pre-requisite: Tango I or equivalent. This class builds upon the skills gained in Tango I. Many students move on to this after taking Tango I a few times. Some say that taking Tango I as a Repeater and Tango II at the same time really help them to improve their dance. Plan to attend the Practica (included in the class price) from 8:00 to 9:00 PM. Tango III (Intermediate and above) Thursdays, 8:00 to 9:00 PM Pre-requisite: Consider yourself an intermediate dancer if you have been taking lessons weekly for at least 6 months. Most students spend years years taking intermediate classes and advanced students still benefit from Intermediate Classes. Be sure to come for the Practica from 8:00 to 9:00 which is included in the class price. Still not sure which class is right for you? Call Marie at 317-490-6739 or just come to Tango and she will suggest the most appropriate class(es) for you. |
